Peru - Master Plant Dieta - Day 6
August 27, 2026 – Day 6
The weather here is beautiful, exactly how I like it. Hot and dry during the day, and very cool at night, the air feels and smells so fresh in the mornings, mix in the fragrance of the pine trees, it could not be more perfect. That said, my cabin has no AC, it sits on a south facing slope, so I get direct sun all afternoon, and it gets downright hot in here by mid afternoon. I promise I will be the point in a minute; the weather is not my usual fodder here...
Yesterday morning, took a hike along one of the trails, this property is stunning to say the least, towering redwoods, ferns, wildlife, and water. Found this amazing spot down along a stream, giant boulders everywhere, little waterfalls, lots of shade, and one perfectly flat on the top massive boulder to lay myself down upon. If you have ever spent anytime in the mountains, you know it can be a good 15-20 degrees cooler in the shade, especially near moving water, so I formulated a plan to spend my afternoon right there, as opposed to the exposed ridge where my cabin sits. Let me tell you what, it was delightful, I wrote, I read, I napped, contemplated life, and just soaked in each moment. The sound of a babbling stream puts me in a full Zen state, Nirvana... Spent three hours right there on that boulder, happy as a clam, even though I have never understood that figure of speech. Are clams really happy? That is neither here nor there, the point is, it was beautiful, I will certainly be right back there this afternoon when the sun gets high and hot.
When a man spends this many days alone in silence and isolation, things come up, you begin to notice things that maybe were just under the surface in day-to-day life. I am so glad that I did it, it has been well worth the effort. As I sit here reflecting on the past 5 days, day 3 was the most challenging, it was the only day, I even had a thought of quitting. It went something like this, “I could be packed up and in my rental car in less than an hour, head back to San Jose and spend a few days before I leave.” Like said it was just a thought, I ignored it and pushed through. This is my final full day here, I am making the most of it, staying focused with my work, as with everything in life, we can receive back only what we put in. Life here in this place is so simple and easy, but it is not the “real” world, simply a training ground, so it is time to move on. I fly out on the jet plane in the morning, not sure when the next entry here will be. Maybe I squeeze another one out but if not, the next entry will either be while on my way to Peru or once I have landed in Cusco. If we consider this whole thing a meal, we have just finished the appetizer, so stay tuned for the main course.
